Blake Carrington EP – ‘F.A.I.L.U.R.E.’

Certain artists are predisposed to succeed because of their character traits. While most people are programmed to be scared of speedbumps, setbacks and uncertainty, others use the pressure to turn themselves into resilient diamonds, destined to shine whether today or tomorrow. Blake Carrington looked F.A.I.L.U.R.E. dead in the grill and laughed as he continues his hustle to becoming a household name with the huge new project, book and interactive video series.

Back in January, we tried our best to give you a compelling reason to put aside 5 minutes to soak in the “What You Tryna Do?” video with Devontee and since then, the record has been on loop. Blake promised the F.A.I.L.U.R.E. (Finding A way In Loving Urself Reflects Excellence) project in April upon that release and followed through with his plan and much more. Bundled with the interactive film and art book which shows the evolution of Carrington and his inspirations over his storied career.

F.A.I.L.U.R.E. was made with help Toronto heavyweights like Kardinal Offishall, Jelly2Fly, Rich Kidd and Junia T. Nothing encapsulates the project like his verses on “Yesterday” where he details the arduous grind of trying to find himself in an industry awash with carbon copies.

“I remember it like yesterday, bright lights big city
Me and Chris on our way to NY just to flow for Diddy
All the way from Toronto dreaming bout the cars and condos
Tell my dad that i would make it, he said ‘Make sure that you follow’
I was ready, I was ready – maybe I was star struck
Time to hit the stage and they told me that I stuck…
Damn – I’m feeling so blessed today
To my past – forgive me for my yesterday”

In an era where promises go unkept, release dates change more than an artist’s socks and the end product is often under delivered, having a timely product drop with so much collateral dopeness is a refreshing change in the game. Like we said from the top, some artists are just different and understand that the seeds of their future success are found in their failures today.

Spend a little time in Carrington’s World and figure out why F.A.I.L.U.R.E. today might be the best option of all.
